samsung galaxy s7

The Galaxy S7 is a telephone you can hold -- including the iPhone 6S and LG G5, with their flat backs leading to a slightly awkward position in the hand. The glass and metal does not offer much in the method of traction, but since the telephone is much better positioned from the hand I felt like I was less likely to let it slide compared with all the iPhone or S6.

The size, shape and basic design of the Galaxy S7 means it is easier to operate and hold one-handed too. I could hit the other side of this screen with my thumb with much less strain, and it took little to no shuffling in the hand to move around the whole display.

The power/lock key on the right and volume keys on the left too fall well under finger and thumb, although you'll still have to juggle the S7 somewhat to reach the fingerprint scanner, which can be inserted beneath the physical home key.

Returning to the rear of this Galaxy S7, the square camera bulge remains there, but this time around it is less protruding. Samsung has been able to flatten its snapper considerably since the Galaxy S6 -- it's down to just 0.46mm, and while it is still not flush with the body of this S7, it is much less volcanic.

It's not totally flat, which will be some thing Huawei CEO Richard Yu was more than pleased to tell us about in the launch of the P9 - a telephone that has, as Yu put it "no bump, no bump!"

Alongside it you will come across the LED flash and heartbeat monitor -- a feature Samsung insists on placing on its top-tier handsets, though a smartwatch or fitness tracker is much better placed for this tech. It also measures stress and O2 saturation levels, although it's unclear how accurate these detectors are.

It's there if you want it just visit the S Health program -- but I can't see it getting much use.

What I noticed almost immediately, but was how much a fingerprint magnet that the Galaxy S7 is. The glass seems excellent, but I found myself often reaching for my microfiber fabric to smarten up the look of the S7.

It's exactly the exact same issue the Galaxy S6 had, and it is surprising that Samsung has not attempted to deal with this with the S7.

There was expectation Samsung would tackle the only speaker setup it put on the Galaxy S6, but alas it has not. It's kept the single speaker on the base of this Galaxy S7, rather than opting for dual front-facing offerings such as HTC and Sony.

It's not a huge problem, but the outcome is noise from your movies, games and music may wind up being muted by your hands.

Samsung has resurrected two features from the Galaxy S5 however, using a microSD slot and dust and water resistance both appearing on the Galaxy S7.

This permits you to construct on the 32GB of internal storage by up to a additional 200GB, providing you with a lot of space.

The IP68 water immunity has improved by the S5, allowing submersion of up to five feet for half an hour, plus there is no bothersome flap covering the charging port.

The microUSB port was waterproofed, however, the S7 will not charge if it detects water in its own hole. If you've taken the phone to get a plunge in the tub, you will need to wash the charging port before plugging in.

Samsung hasn't reinvented the wheel with all the plan of the Galaxy S7, but it didn't have to. The Galaxy S6 has been an excellently styled device, and the S7 has managed to improve on this.

Display
One of the best screens on any smartphone
Colors are crisp and clear, contrast ratios outstanding
Great auto brightness and simple outdoor visibility
Consistently on display is excellent addition
At first glance, the S7's screen appears to be just like the 5.1-inch, QHD Super AMOLED offering on the Galaxy S6. The resolution is still 2,560 x 1,440, providing you a pin-sharp 577ppi pixel density.

That is no bad thing, as the screen on the S6 was exceptional -- but Samsung's made matters even better compared to the Galaxy S7.

It fact, DisplayMate has said the screen on the Galaxy S7 is the top of any smartphone.

What does this all mean? The main thing is that the screen on the Galaxy S7 is 24% brighter than its predecessor, with improved contrast ratios to boot up.

Held side by side with the Galaxy S6 I could see the Galaxy S7 display had whiter whites, and colours seemed to be a bit more natural compared to the slight over-saturation on the S6.

In short, the Samsung Galaxy S7 includes a fantastic screen. You are not likely to notice much gap coming out of a Galaxy S6, but for those looking to upgrade from a handset that's two decades old your own eyes are in for a treat.

Never off
Samsung's implementation sees the screen on the Galaxy S7 display a few distinct things once the handset is lying idle.

That is useful, but I was disappointed that the alarms icons were confined to only these two things. I do the majority of my messaging via WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, rather than having notifications for those on the display was somewhat frustrating.

Now this handset was stopped (owing to each of the catching flame it did) it is good to see that the features live on - consumers are starting to get the newest applications which brings more choices into the always-on display.
